Walkathon For Water: Communities Stepping Forward To Transform Lives

Between May and November 2025, the third edition of Walkathon For Water will bring together thousands of people across Europe and the UK in a heartfelt mission to tackle the global water crisis. Organised by the We Are Water Foundation in collaboration with 26 resorts managed by Hilton Grand Vacations Inc., this inspiring initiative will host 19 charity walks in cities across Spain, the UK, France, Italy, Portugal, and Austria. The aim is to raise crucial funds for projects that will improve access to clean water and sanitation for over 3,100 vulnerable people in India and Colombia.

The Urgent Need Behind the Walk
Water scarcity and poor sanitation remain among the most urgent humanitarian challenges worldwide. Every day, more than 1,000 children tragically lose their lives due to diseases caused by unsafe water and inadequate hygiene. Globally, over two billion people still lack access to safe drinking water, a situation that fuels malnutrition, illness, and poverty. The Walkathon For Water shines a spotlight on this crisis, inviting participants to walk in solidarity with millions of children and families who must walk an average of six kilometres daily just to collect clean water for their households.

By joining the Walkathon, participants symbolically share the burden carried by these communities, transforming each step into a powerful gesture of support and hope. The event is not only a fundraiser but also an educational platform, encouraging responsible water use and raising awareness about the preciousness of this vital resource.
Where the Funds Will Make a Difference
All funds raised during the Walkathon For Water 2025 will be dedicated to two impactful projects:
- In India, the focus is on the drought-affected Dhone Mandal region of the Nandyal district. Here, the funds will restore critical water sources for local farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices. This project aims to secure livelihoods and build resilience in a region where water scarcity threatens both families and food production.
- In Colombia, the initiative supports the Los Moreneros community by rehabilitating the potable water supply system. Alongside infrastructure improvements, the project will foster hygiene and sanitation habits, helping to reduce disease and improve overall quality of life for residents.
Together, these projects will directly benefit more than 3,100 people, providing them with access to clean water, improved health, and renewed dignity.

How to Join the Walkathon
Participation in Walkathon For Water is open to all who wish to contribute to this vital cause. Interested individuals can register via the Walkathon For Water website or sign up on-site at designated locations on the day of the walk. A minimum donation of €5 is required to take part. The event schedule, including dates and cities, is available online, offering numerous opportunities for people across six countries to get involved.
Each kilometre walked represents one less kilometre a child or woman must travel daily to fetch water, making every step a meaningful contribution to easing the hardships faced by vulnerable communities.
